[EDIT: Tell me everything! Was CincyAngl around anywhere? I really wanted to meet her & give her a hug. Everyone make it in & out okay? Any trouble with Scientologists or angry people? Did you have lots of foot traffic? Today should've been such a busy day down there, but you never know what routes people are taking. I'm dying to know how things went, in detail! PM me, even, or post, if interesting stuff happened. I'm really disappointed in myself and my life for having missed this!]

Please, please, please (fingers crossed let everybody be fine and all have gone well. I could absolutely not duck out of a family obligation that ran very, very long.

Depressing, but I was summoned this morning by a "Tone 40" aunt (we call her the general) to go sort & collect my mom's belongings because she would "roll over in her grave" thinking of another woman handling her things. While I would like to think we do not carry our grudges into the afterlife, apparently my mom is bitter even in Heaven. My aunt is right that we have only one more weekend before a new wife will be living in that house, and I will have no ability to go in there and claim antiques, family heirlooms, and memorabilia. THAT part shouldn't have taken long, but the clothes... Mom was a neat but obsessive hoarder, and stuff was stashed EVERYWHERE, it turns out. I knew there was a bunch, but thought most had already been taken care of. I was wrong. Were it up to me only, I'd have left them for someone else to deal with, but "grave rolling" & whatnot coming from the aunt, so I stayed.

4 super-packed closets, 8 underbed boxes, several dressers, 2 trips to Goodwill, and one half-one loaded truck of furniture later... I was late, exhausted, and unable to make it downtown. I've only just arrived home to recover from an emotionally exhausting day full of tears, and trauma. No pics of the clothes, because we were so busy packing & it was so chaotic, but I'll photograph, black out my name & my sister's & post a pleading & heartbreaking letter I wrote my mom when I was 13. I can hear myself cringing in it from all the verbal abuse, and reading it was just like a punch to the gut. I have no idea why she saved it.

I hope you're all fine, and that today was successful.

glad to hear you're not in some hidden rpf in the courtyard of the org. i was trying to setup a search party, but the route i was looking at got investigated by a cop, so it had to be called off. (Plus the recon specialist i was talking to said it would be too difficult to pull off anyway Smile)

I'm just sad, and kind of broken after today. Of course, I didn't get the adrenaline rush of the protests, which always leave me a little giddy for awhile. Furthermore, seeing all that stuff, stuff that reminds you of a parent's habits that amused you, annoyed you, or were so typical of them... it was wrenching.

I can't say that I'm bothered by tassels (the kind that go on furniture or are used to decorate wall sconces, etc., for you dirty-minded folk!), but for awhile my mom went through this phase where she had 'em hanging on doorknobs, sconces, cabinet handles, all kinds of crazy places. She thought they were pretty, but overdid it. Then, after I joked about it several times, she took most of them down.

I found the stash today, & it made me cry. Why keep things like that? A broken adult tooth (ew!) in one of those tiny manila envelopes you could fit a key into? In a carefully preserved and labeled plastic bag, in an underbed box, I found my dead (only) sister's MAKEUP, complete with mascara, lipliner, eyeliner (all of which can harbor bacteria and are now at least 16 years old?).

It was weird, and exhausting. Sad

I wish I'd been there for a Margaritaville/Beach Party bash, and even had a bunch of Beach Boys songs, "Get This Party Started" and some Buffet tunes on my iPod that I got just for today. I could've used it, plus a margarita or two.

I'm so lame.

I actually bought some small gold tassels to put on my Sea Org uniform for June, but didn't see any in the photo i was modelling, so I didn't use them. i could have sworn i had seen them before, but i guess that's why i should make the list before going to the arts and crafts section at Wal-mart.

There's nothing lame about taking care of family matters. it may suck having to miss out on other stuff, but that's just part of life.
